Perfect Cocktails For At-Home Board Game Nights

board games night

In the post-pandemic world, board games have seen a significant rise in sales. People went back to the ’80s and ’90s classics to keep themselves entertained while ploughing through some tough times. But now that there is a semblance of normalcy restored (cross your fingers as you read this, please!), people have surprisingly chosen to keep ‘game night’ alive.

To be fair, it’s fun to play some nerve-wracking games that test friendships or allow you to destroy a mortal enemy in combat on a board with plastic bee bees. If you often find yourself playing host and aren’t sure what cocktails to serve, we’ve got you covered. However, our recipes will be for single serves, so be sure to do the appropriate maths according to your guest list.

Classic Margarita

This is a great drink to be devoured in a group. Make a few pitchers of these and you’re good to go! For this, you’ll need 30 ml of tequila, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 20 ml of triple sec, 10 ml of simple syrup, and a lemon wedge for garnish. First, rim a martini glass with salt and fill it with ice. Then, in a shaker combine all the ingredients and shake thoroughly. Finally, garnish it with a lime wedge.

Moscow Mule

For this cocktail, you’ll need 30 ml of Smirnoff Triple Distilled Vodka, 150 ml of ginger beer, 20 ml of fresh lime juice, and a lime wedge for garnish. First, fill a copper mug with ice. Then, pour the vodka  and fresh lime juice.  Top it off with the ginger beer. Finally, garnish it with a lime wedge.

Whisky Sour

This is more appropriate for more serious games, with higher stakes… something like UNO. For this, you’ll need 30 ml of bourbon, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 20 ml of simple syrup, and a maraschino cherry. In a shaker, combine all the ingredients with ice and shake well. Then strain it into a rock glass with ice and garnish with the maraschino cherry.

Mojito

There’s no game that a chilled and refreshingly minty mojito can’t elevate! For this, you’ll need 30 ml of white rum, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 20 ml of simple syrup, a dash of soda water, and some fresh mint leaves for garnish. First, in a tall glass muddle the mint leaves with the simple syrup. Then, add the rum and lime juice and fill the glass with ice. Finally, top it off with the soda water and stir gently.

Pina Colada

This fruity, creamy, tiki cocktail is always a party favourite. For this, you’ll need 30 ml of white rum, 90 ml of pineapple juice, 60 ml of coconut cream, and a pineapple slice or maraschino cherry for garnish. First, blend the rum, pineapple juice, and coconut cream until smooth. Pour the mixture into a hurricane glass filled with crushed ice and garnish with a pineapple slice or maraschino cherry.

Cosmopolitan

This cocktail is perfect if you’re feeling a little fancy,  and so is the crew. For this, you’ll need 30 ml of Smirnoff vodka, 20 ml of triple sec, 30 ml of cranberry juice, 10 ml of fresh lime juice, and an orange zest twist for garnish. First, fill a shaker with ice and pour in all the ingredients and shake well. Then, strain the drink into a martini glass and garnish with an orange zest twist.

Espresso Martini

If you know it’s going to be a long night and you need to keep everyone awake, this is the perfect cocktail for your requirements.  You’ll have to brew a pot of espresso, allow it to cool to room temperature, and then chill it in the fridge for as long as you can. Then, take 30 ml of Smirnoff vodka, 20 ml of Baileys Original Irish Cream Liqueur, 20 ml of espresso, 10 ml of simple syrup and ice and shake it in a cocktail shaker. Then strain the concoction into a martini glass and garnish with coffee beans or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

It is easy to get carried with cocktails in the company of friends. Remember to drink responsibly to enjoy the party!
