Try This Classic Hot Toddy For Cool Winter Nights, And 4 Seasonal Variations

Traditionally, the Hot Toddy is ideally a winter drink since its warm notes tend to favour the cooler months of the calendar. Of course, there’s no rule that one cannot customise this old favourite according to the seasons. That’s exactly what we are preaching today. While purists may disagree, we beg to differ. Listed below are a few variations of this drink which highlight its ability to adapt to your preferences and the changing seasons – an all-year-round cocktail. 

Classic Hot Toddy

Variations may come and go, but a timeless favourite amongst connoisseurs, the classic Hot Toddy is will never go out of style. The simplicity and comforting warmth of the drink are the secret to its popularity. The rich, peaty smokiness from a Talisker 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the sweetness of the honey, cut by the tartness from the lemon juice, and the warm notes of clove together create an immersive experience that is savoured by many. The following recipe yields one drink.

Ingredients:

50ml Talisker 10 Year Old

75ml Boiling water

25ml Honey

25ml Lemon juice

Lemon wedge

Cloves

Method:

Place a bar spoon filled with honey in a tumbler or latte glass.

Using a jigger, pour Talisker 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, lemon juice, and three cloves into the glass. Top up with boiling water.

Stir the liquid slowly, using a bar spoon.

Garnish with a wedge of lemon.

Winter Warmer Hot Toddy

The Winter Warmer Hot Toddy is the GOAT. Designed to warm the cockles of your heart, the drink is enhanced with aromatic spices such as cinnamon and cloves, making it ideal for chilly evenings when you want to cosy up with a blanket and oversized knitwear. 

Ingredients:

60 ml Black & White Scotch Whisky

30 ml honey

15 ml fresh lemon juice

120 ml hot water

1 cinnamon stick

3 cloves

A lemon wheel for garnish

Method:

First, prepare the classic Hot Toddy by combining Scotch whisky, honey, lemon juice and hot water.

Stir till all of the ingredients are well combined.

Then, add a cinnamon stick and cloves for some warmth.

Garnish with a lemon wheel and serve.

Spring Revival Hot Toddy

Spring marks revival and all things fresh. The Spring Revival Hot Toddy is an embodiment of the same. Fresh herbs such as mint and thyme add a certain degree of freshness to the drink while keeping it comforting. 

Ingredients:

60 ml Johnnie Walker Black Label

30 ml honey

15 ml fresh lime juice

120 ml hot water

Fresh mint leaves

A sprig of thyme

Lemon wheel for garnish

Method:

First, create the classic Hot Toddy base with  Scotch whisky, honey, and hot water.

Then, replace the lemon juice with fresh lime juice for some extra zest.

Next, add fresh mint leaves and a sprig of thyme for a refreshing herbal touch.

Finish with a lemon wheel and serve.

Summer Cooler Hot Toddy

The Summer Cooler Hot Toddy is a delightful transformation of the otherwise traditional warm cocktail. A perfect choice for the next time you crave a refreshing beverage on hot summer days or balmy evenings, One can experiment with fruits and herbs for added refreshment and variation in flavours. We recommend garnishing your drink with seasonal berries or a slice of cucumber for that extra summery zest.

Ingredients

60 ml The Singleton of Glendullan 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky

30 ml honey

15 ml fresh grapefruit juice

120 ml cold water

Fresh mint leaves

Sliced strawberries

Ice cubes

Method:

First, mix Scotch whisky, honey, fresh grapefruit juice, and cold water in a glass.

Then stir it till well combined.

Next, add ice cubes to chill the drink.

Finally, garnish with fresh mint leaves and sliced strawberries. Serve chilled.

Autumn Indulgence Hot Toddy

Autumn is all about getting cosy and comfortable in your oversized sweats, and the Autumn Indulgence Hot Toddy beautifully captures that essence in a glass. With the addition of apple cider and maple syrup, it's perfect for the crisp days of summery sun and golden leaves. The apple cider adds a touch of warmth while the apple slices are a reminder of the many apple crumble pies that Autumn ushers in.

Ingredients:

60 ml Black Dog Scotch Whisky

30 ml maple syrup

15 ml fresh apple cider

120 ml hot water

Thin apple slices

1 cinnamon stick for garnish

Method:

First, prepare the classic Hot Toddy with Scotch whisky and hot water.

Next, add the rich maple syrup.

Then add fresh apple cider and mix well till combined.

Finally, garnish with thin apple slices and a cinnamon stick for an autumnal touch. Serve immediately.
