Aam panna is a raw mango drink that is traditionally prepared as a summer beverage across India. Made using simple ingredients and well-balanced in terms of taste, this recipe provides two versions — one as a conventional non-alcoholic option and the other, as a cocktail for a unique spin on the beverage.
2 raw mangoes 500 ml water 4 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder ½ teaspoon black salt 10 mint leaves 60 ml white rum or vodka (for the cocktail version)
Boil raw mangoes in water until they are soft, cool and peel before discarding the skin.
Pull out the seeds and grind the pulp into a smooth, even consistency to make the drink have a silken mouthfeel.
Mix the pulp with sugar, roasted cumin powder, black salt and mint for added taste.
Mix with water to dilute the mixture for an even flavour; stir well and then season to taste. before serving it cold.
Pour ice and white rum or vodka using a jigger into the panna and top up with soda or tonic water; stir well to mix before serving. *Drink Responsibly. This communication is for audiences above the age of 25.
