A gift of distilled juniper berries, gin is often deemed as a snobbish drink that has seen a resurgence in the last decade with people choosing cocktails that exclusively use gin, to savour its flavour. Simple tips for avid mixologists allows gin enthusiasts to explore avenues to create their own signature drink.
Sample the different gin varieties available in the market, there are many flavours, but a good quality, dry gin is the most common and readily available.
The sour element will complement and enhance the gin's botanical flavours. Some examples are lemon juice, lime juice, grapefruit juice and tart fruit like cherries.
Now that your cocktail is half done, tame down the sourness with something sweet. Use herbal infusions, honey, maple syrup or fruit juice to balance or enhance flavours.
Ideally, the garnish should be one of the ingredients featured in the cocktail. It all depends on how well it can fit inside or on the edge of the glass, without disintegrating into the cocktail or ruining the taste of your drink.
