6 Classic Cocktails For Vegans

vegan cocktails

Hosting a cocktail party for your vegan friends (or yourself) needn’t be all that worrisome. If you’re lactose intolerant or have adopted more sustainable lifestyle choices, these cocktails are definitely up your alley. You can ditch those creamy cocktails for these classic options that are non-fussy! If you’re wondering why these cocktails make it to the list, consider this: honey or sweeteners aren't vegan!

Vegan Mojito

This delicious cocktail is an instant pick-me-up on a hot day. You’ll need 30 ml of white rum, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 15 ml of agave syrup, fresh mint leaves, soda water, ice cubes, and a lime wheel for garnish. First, muddle the mint leaves, lime juice, and agave syrup in a highball glass. Then add the white rum and ice cubes. Just before serving top it off with the soda water and give it a good stir. Finally, garnish it with the lime wheel.

Vegan Margarita

For this, you’ll need 30 ml of tequila, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 15 ml of agave syrup, ice cubes, and a lime wedge for garnish. For this, combine the tequila, lime juice, and agave syrup with ice cubes in a cocktail shake. Share rigorously for about 20 seconds until everything is chilled and frothy. Then strain the mixture into a margarita glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Vegan Pina Colada

This delicious vegan tiki cocktail requires 90 ml of pineapple juice, 60 ml of coconut cream, 30 ml of white rum, 15 ml of agave syrup, crushed ice, and a pineapple slice for garnish. First, blend the pineapple juice, coconut milk, agave syrup and ice until smooth. Pour the mixture into a hurricane glass with ice and a pineapple slice. It’s originally a vegan drink, so feel free to order it at pubs as well. Just in case a bar has its version that isn’t vegan, double-check with them.

Vegan Espresso Martini

For this vegan spin on the classic cocktail, you’ll need 30 ml of Smirnoff Triple Distilled Vodka, 30 ml of freshly brewed espresso chilled, 15 ml of agave syrup, ice cubes, and a few coffee beans for garnish. First, you’ll have to brew the espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine or French Press,  you can even do it in a saucepan. Grind about 30 gms of coffee until it’s coarse. Heat about 150 ml of water until it’s almost boiling. Then add the coffee grounds and stir. Let it steep for about four to five minutes. You can go longer depending on your preference of strength. Once it’s steeped enough, remove it from the flame and let the coffee settle down. Then, let it completely cool off and refrigerate after straining. Now, you can assemble your cocktail. Combine the vodka, espresso, and agave syrup, with ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Strain it into a martini glass and garnish with coffee beans.

Vegan Mai Tai

This vegan twist on the class tiki cocktail is a complete delight. For this recipe, you’ll need 30 ml of white rum, 15 ml of Captain Morgan Dark Rum, 15 ml of orange curaçao, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 10 ml of agave syrup, ice cubes, and a cherry for garnish. First, in a cocktail shaker, combine the white rum, dark rum, orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, and agave syrup with ice and shake well. Then strain the mixture into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice, and garnish with a cherry.

Vegan Daiquiri

For this recipe, you’ll need 30 ml of white rum, 30 ml of fresh lime juice, 15 ml of agave syrup, ice cubes, and a lime wheel for garnish. To assemble the cocktail, add the rum, fresh lime juice, agave syrup and ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake for about 20 seconds. Then, strain the mixture into a martini glass with crushed ice and garnish with a lime wheel.
