There’s nothing quite like sipping on a refreshing cocktail while sitting by the beach. As the sun goes down and the waves reach your toes, a nice beverage completes the picture perfectly. Even better if this is your New Year’s Eve getaway and you’re saying goodbye to the old while ringing in the new, in style. Here are our nine favourite drinks to sip by the beach, from classic to crazy.
Piña Colada
To get the obvious out of the way early, no list of beach cocktails is complete without a Piña Colada. Made with coconut cream, pineapple juice, and white rum, and often served in a hollow pineapple, this cocktail is every bit as delicious as it is pretty. In fact, few drinks taste better than a Piña Colada on a sunny beach day.
Sex on the Beach
Okay, we promise this will be the only other obvious entry on the list. This cocktail is a barrage of fruity flavors, made with vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and orange juice. It is every bit as good as the name touts it to be. It is the perfect beach drink to get the party started.
Mai Tai
A popular tiki cocktail, it is no surprise that a bunch of the best beach cocktails come out of Hawaii. This drink is an intensely flavorful combination of white and dark rum, orange curacao, lime juice, and orgeat, a sweet and creamy almond syrup that comes out of Hawaii. The cocktail is honest to its name, which “Out of this world!” in Tahitian.
Cape Codder
Commonly known as the “Cape Cod”, this cocktail is one of the most popular combinations, vodka and cranberry juice. This drink is a crowd favourite for a reason, it is as easy to make as it gets and it always tastes great. Sometimes, simple is great!
Mango Mojito
A welcome twist to a refreshing classic, mangoes make everything better. Made with white rum, mint leaves, mango juice, lime juice, and mango chunks, the mango mojito is a must try if you are tired of the same old cocktails and want something with a little oomph.
Ocean Breeze
When they say ocean breeze is the best part of the beach, we take it as a double entendre. This bright blue drink has a striking look, and is made with white rum, amaretto, blue curacao, pineapple juice and soda. It looks like you are drinking a glass right out of the ocean, but luckily it tastes much better.
Tropical Punch
One of the tastiest drinks on the list, the punch is ideal for a beach party because you can be sure everyone will love it. A combination of fruit juices of your choice (we recommend orange and guava), vodka, grenadine, and soda, this cocktail is an explosion of fruity flavours at their best.
Margarita
Ordering margaritas for the table when sitting at a beach shack has to be one of our favourite things to do at the beach. This classy drink is made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, but you can substitute the orange liqueur with agave juice for a fun twist.
Beer Shandy
If you didn’t have beer, did you really even go to the beach? We couldn’t have finished this list without a beer-based cocktail. If you are on the fence about the idea, the beer shandy is the right drink to bring you over. Made with beer, lemon soda, and syrup, this drink is loved by even those who may not be the biggest fans of beer.
