Six Turmeric-Infused Cocktails For A Golden Touch

Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is the underdog of the spice rack. We have seen this humble root spice up dishes, but in cocktails? It's a game-changer. The musky essence of the root and peppery flavour profile come alive when mixed with fine spirits and mixers. From margaritas tampered with turmeric to a spiced whisky, here are six cocktails infused with the versatile golden-hued kitchen staple.

The Golden Walker

This is where the smokey Johnnie Walker Black Label, 50 ml, gets cosy with 10 ml of zesty turmeric syrup (made from simmering sugar, water, and a pinch of turmeric) and a splash of lemon juice. Shake it up, pour it over ice, top it with Black and White ginger ale and there you have it—a cocktail with many different sides to it.

Turmeric Tonic

Traditional tonics might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but this one can impress a crowd. Gordon's Gin, 50 ml, meets its colourful match as you stir in 10 ml of turmeric syrup and add a fizz of tonic water. A lime wheel for garnish gives that citrus pop. It's like summer in a glass, with a twist of turmeric adding a bit of whimsy.

Sunset Margarita

Now, let's get a bit fancy. Mix 45 ml of Don Julio Blanco with a dash of turmeric-infused orange liqueur and lime juice. Shake it like you mean it and pour into a glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lime wheel for a sunny touch. You’ve got a margarita that’s no less than a sunset spectacle in your hand, with shades of gold and amber.

Turmeric Gold Rush

Take 45 ml Black Dog Triple Gold, add 15 ml of turmeric honey syrup and 20 ml of lemon juice. When shaken and poured into a chilled cocktail glass, this drink becomes a liquid gold—a nod to the whisky's rich heritage, with a turmeric tinge that whispers tales of distant lands.

The Herbalist's Non-Alcoholic Potion

For those who prefer the road less intoxicating, The Herbalist's Non-Alcoholic Potion is a dream. Mix 60 ml of Smirnoff Lemon Pop with 15 ml of turmeric syrup. Finish off with some orange zest and garnish with rosemary for a mocktail that is as brightening as a walk through the farmer’s market.

Turmeric Colada

Finally, the Turmeric Colada reimagines a tropical classic. Blend 45 ml of Captain Morgan Dark Rum with 15 ml of turmeric syrup, 30 ml each of pineapple juice, and fresh coconut cream. While Coladas always remind one of sandy beaches and the blue sea, this one’s a cruise through the Caribbean with a stopover in the famed spice markets of the East.

In crafting these cocktails, remember, the art is in balance. A respect for the potency of turmeric and a commitment to responsible enjoyment will make the experience more memorable.
