The Sip

During these sweltering summer months, offering cocktails to your guests is your best bet as a host, and which cocktail screams ‘summer’ louder than a Tequila Sunrise?

With its vivid flavour and bright colours, the three-ingredient Tequila Sunrise is the perfect drink to sip on, as one carefreely paints their canvas with equally bright shades.

Making a Tequila Sunrise cocktail is extremely easy and hardly takes any time! All you need is some good tequila (the Don Julio Blanco, Don Julio Reposado or Don Julio 1942 would work wonders in this recipe), some orange juice and a dash of grenadine.

Read on for the easiest 3-ingredient Tequila Sunrise recipe!

Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Tequila
  • 120 ml orange juice (preferably fresh)
  • 15 ml Grenadine
  • Orange slice/Maraschino Cherry for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Add ice cubes to a highball glass, pour tequila and orange juice into the glass and stir well
  • Slowly pour grenadine on the back of a spoon into the glass and let it sink to the bottom (this will create the famous layered effect of the cocktail)
  • Top it off with your garnish and serve chilled

For guests who aren’t big on drinking—Black & White Ginger Ale and Smirnoff Lemon Pop are some great non-alcoholic alternatives!

The Paint

For a successful Sip and Paint event, the most important thing is to have a designated area where everyone can prop up their canvases, sit side-by-side and paint the town red (no pun intended!)

To kick off the creative part of this activity, all you need to do as a host is gather painting supplies such as canvases, easels, acrylic paints, palettes, paintbrushes and some aprons to protect your guest’s clothing, and set all of these things up in your designated painting area along with some chairs and tables (for the drinks of course!)

Pre-deciding a theme for your Sip and Paint party is also a great idea. This way, your guests can ‘healthily compare’ their final masterpieces.

A delicious bowl of snacks is always considered a welcome addition, so don’t be shy and put out some light appetisers for your guests to munch on (after all, we need them to paint between the lines don’t we?)

Now hand your guests their drinks, sit back and observe as your friends and family create magic on their canvases!

To make things even more interesting, you can make small hampers / goodie bags which can then be presented to the person whose painting was voted the best by the majority (in the spirit of healthy competition, of course!)

Colourful Strokes for Responsible Folks

Always remember, it’s no fun to make an utter mess of the canvas (this can also be used as a deep metaphor for life). So drink responsibly, paint freely, and compliment your friends and family as if they are the next Piccaso.
