7 Mulled Beer Cocktails To Try In Winter Season

By: Rajan Bhattacharya

Winter Season

Mulled beer beverages have gained popularity as a seasonal favourite, especially during colder months. These drinks have flavours derived from warming beer with fruit, herbs, and spices. For those who want a tasteful drink, this method of drinking beer gives the beverage a degree of complexity and richness.

These spiced beer cocktails have a good mix between the maltiness of beer and their aroma from spices, including cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. You can make them in a lot of different ways, and they are easy to make. Mulled beer cocktails, both traditional and new ones made with them, are quickly becoming popular.

Popular Mulled Beer Cocktails

Traditional Mulled Ale

An easy way to savour a warm beer cocktail is traditional mulled ale. This recipe recommends heating a light or amber ale with cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and cloves. Adding a spoon of honey or brown sugar makes the beer taste more malty, and adding slices of orange or lemon gives it a tart taste. Serve this drink in a mug. The preparation time is about 15 minutes, and it serves four people. For a single serving, it will require 20ml honey, 10ml lemon juice, 5 tablespoons crushed ginger, 30ml lager, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, 2 cardamom pods.

Spiced Stout With Dark Chocolate

A rich, stout beer pairs perfectly with dark chocolate and warm spices. To prepare this, cook stout with star anise, vanilla, and ground cinnamon. Add some dark chocolate and wait until it melts and adds a creamy texture to the drink. This drink tastes great with dessert, and you can decorate it with an orange slice or a cinnamon stick. This recipe is enough for three to four people and takes about 20 minutes. For a single serving, 30ml of stout beer, 50gms of dark chocolate, 1 star anise, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 1 spoon of ground cinnamon and 1 cinnamon stick.

Apple Mulled Beer

Apple cider and beer come together in this fusion recipe. Combine a pale ale with apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Boil it for a while so the flavours can mix. Serve it with thin apple slices on top to look nice. It turns out to be a spicy, sour cocktail with just the right amount of sweetness. It takes about 20 minutes to make and serves four. For the large batch recipe, one will need 500ml of ginger beer, 500ml of apple cider, 30ml of lime juice, and 20ml of cardamom bitter.

2

Honey-Ginger Lager Cocktail

This recipe highlights the crisp flavours of lager with the zest of ginger and a touch of honey. Simmer lager with ginger slices, allspice, and cardamom. Add honey to taste to make it sweet. This cocktail is a lighter choice, and lemon zest looks great on top of it. It takes 15 minutes to make and can feed two or three people. For this large batch recipe, you need 500ml of ginger lager, 50ml of honey, 10gms of crushed ginger, allspice and cardamom and 5gms of lemon zest.

Mulled Wheat Beer With Citrus

Wheat beer lends itself to citrus and herbal notes, making it a good base for a mulled cocktail. Simmer wheat beer with orange slices, coriander seeds, and a small amount of honey. A sprig of rosemary can be added for an herbal touch. Serve in glass mugs. This cocktail takes around 15 minutes to prepare and serves three people. This large batch recipe requires 500ml of wheat beer, 10-12 orange slices, 30ml of honey, and 10gms of coriander seeds.

Berry-Infused Mulled Beer

Made with mixed berries, cinnamon and cloves, fruity beers are combined to create this beverage. Slowly cook it so the berries can add their taste to the beer. This cocktail tastes somewhat sour and has a trace of sweetener. It takes 20 minutes to make and serves two or three. The large batch recipe needs 500 ml of fruit beer, 30gms of mixed berries, 2 cinnamon sticks, 5 cloves,1 seedless lemon, 20ml honey and ice cubes for serving.

Nutmeg-Spiced Porter

As it tastes so roasted and deep, porter beer is a great base for a spiced cocktail. Add nutmeg, cloves, and a little brown sugar to the porter in a pan and let it simmer. Adding a little vanilla extract can make the taste better. This recipe is a great choice for those who enjoy malty drinks. For a large batch recipe, one will require 500ml porter beer, 30gms of brown sugar, 3 nutmegs, 5 cloves and two teaspoons of vanilla extract. The entire preparation takes 15 minutes, and it serves two people.
