However, making a backdrop need not be an expensive affair, if you have the right tools and know-how.
Check out these DIY festive photo backdrop ideas that are not only attractive but also easy to create on your own.
Classic Holiday Season Backdrop
Red, gold and green make for the classic Holiday Season colour combination. To make this backdrop, you will need red and green fabric or paper, gold tinsel, string lights and faux snow.
Method: Drape the fabric (or paper) as the first layer to the backdrop. Then, hang tinsel and string lights in vertical lines to create a curtain.
Next, spray the foam snow at the bottom of the backdrop.
Glittering New Year’s Eve Photo Backdrop
A New Year’s Eve holiday party works well with a backdrop that complements its glitz and grandiosity. Metallics, glitter and sparkles are handy to aid creating a holiday backdrop for the New Year’s. So you will need metallic fringe curtains, confetti and gold and silver balloons.
Method: Begin by hanging the metallic fringe curtains at the base of the backdrop. Now, tie the balloons in clusters of four or five and arrange them along the top or the sides of the background.
Scatter gold confetti on the floor so that the light bounces off of the confetti and twinkles on the subjects’ faces.
Candy Cane Lane
Playful and whimsical, this candy cane-inspired backdrop is ideal for family-friendly holiday gatherings. To make it a bright and colourful space, source red and white striped paper, a piece of fabric in Barbie pink, oversized decorative lollipops and plastic candy canes.
Method: Use the candy pink fabric as the backdrop of the photo booth. Follow it up by wrapping the candy canes in the red and white paper. Once the glue used to wrap the candy canes has dried completely, stick these and the giant lollipops to the backdrop with double-sided tape.
You can even scatter some props at the bottom, along with a few pastel-coloured balloons or a gingerbread cutout for a more immersive ambience.
Holiday Gift Box Wall
Make your guests’ needs feel met by turning the photo backdrop wall into one with oversized presents.
You will need large cardboard boxes, wrapping paper rolls, tape and oversized ribbons and bows.
Method: Wrap the boxes in different coloured wrapping papers, and tie bows on them with large decorative ribbons. Now, stack them one by one on top of one another with double-sided tape, and casually strew a few small boxes around the base.
The boxes should be stacked at different angles to create a more visually dynamic impact. The boxes can also be draped with battery-operated rice lights for an evening photo-op.
