Follow Your Flavour: A One-Stop Solution To Customising Cocktails For Guests

Follow Your Flavour

While planning a cocktail party or a dinner featuring cocktails, one pressing thought on the host’s mind is which cocktails to prepare and serve guests. The blends being put together for the evening ought to suit the taste preferences of those invited, yet they should be imaginative enough for guests to actually find them interesting. But how can one best determine the taste preferences of their guests?

 1

At The Bar, a specially curated quiz is designed to dive deep into a person’s ingredient and flavour preferences so it can be possible to discern one’s personality and cocktail preferences. This is an absolutely handy tool, called Follow Your Flavour, for an enthusiastic home host keen to make personalised cocktail concoctions for the attendees.

Follow Your Flavour

The Follow Your Flavour tool offers a series of questions that can be administered to guests once they start arriving at the gathering. As they move through this simple quiz, the results will slowly reveal detailed characteristics of the guests ranging from innocent and shy to artistic and experimental but with a knack for choosing well-balanced flavours.

Furthermore, the quiz will also suggest whether a person prefers smoky, fruity or sweet flavours or is more inclined towards umami, savoury and sour notes in cocktails. This comprehensive knowledge can then become the key for the mixologist at the gathering to craft cocktails featuring such flavours, each customised in tune with the results of the quiz.

Administering The Quiz

Send out the link to the quiz to all the guests arriving at the gathering so they can quickly get started. The quiz contains about 13 ingredients and includes: chillies, coconuts, apples, caramel popcorn, green tea, cumin, pears, fresh ginger, cinnamon, burnt brinjal, burnt wood, lemongrass and even lassi.

Guests can choose the degree to which they prefer the flavours of the 13 ingredients in the list and can select from one of these options, ranging from lowest to highest preference:

Eww… not for me

Not my favourite

It’s okay

Yes please!,

Mmm, I love It

Where the first one evidently means that one can perfectly do without this ingredient in their cocktails, ‘Mmm, I love It’ is an indicator that this element has to definitely make it into the cocktail blend. The in-between responses such as ‘It's okay’ and ‘Yes Please’ denote that those ingredients can somehow be worked into the mixes.

The results of the quiz are assessed using specifically curated AI tools and the expertise of certain master distillers which can in turn enable the host to discover the personal taste profile of the guests. These detailed results will be handed over to the home mixologist to prepare drinks complete with the recommendations they deliver.

Revealing The Responses

Once all the responses from guests are in, this can make for an interesting mixology challenge for the home bartender. Different combinations of taste preferences will reveal different flavour combinations and diverse tasting choices, leading to the creation of inventive, personalised cocktails.

While some guests might prefer the more classic choices for cocktails complete with a flavour combination comprising apples, lemongrass and ginger, others might go for a more imaginative combination such as cumin, green tea and burnt wood. Such flavours and ingredients can be infused into cocktails at this party to serve each guest a glass of a drink depicting their personality.

5What’s more, once the cocktails are served, guests can mingle and discuss the results of the tests with each other to slowly disclose their ‘cocktail personality’ that has made its way into the customised blends.
