We Drew Inspiration From The 5 Earth Elements For These Delicious Cocktails

earth element inspired cocktails

Inspired by the five Chinese elements — fire, water, earth, wood and metal — this curated collection of cocktails will speak to a different part of your palate. These simple recipes can all be made with easily-found ingredients, and Diageo’s finest spirits. Let’s dive in!

Fire — Bloody Mary

This classic encapsulates the essence of fire better than any other drink. With its deep red colour, and spicy yet tangy flavour, the Bloody Mary never fails to light a fire on one’s taste buds.

Ingredients

50 ml Smirnoff vodka

100 ml tomato juice

15 ml lemon juice

3 ml Wooster sauce

3 ml Tabasco sauce

Paprika

Pepper

2 lemon wedges

Basil

Add the tomato juice, lemon juice, and vodka into a shaker. Top it with the Wooster and Tabasco sauces, and a dash each of paprika and pepper. Shake well, and pour into a Collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with lemon wedges and basil. Serves one.

Water — Texas Ranch Water

A simple cocktail that is a classic cowboy drink, Ranch Water is sure to refresh you and help fight the heat. We’re sharing a recipe that serves two.

Ingredients

90 ml Don Julio tequila (Blanco or Reposado)

45 ml fresh lime juice

140 ml sparkling water

2 lime wedges

Take a rocks glass filled with ice, and add the tequila and lime juice to it. Add the sparkling water till the glass is full or to preference, and garnish with a lime wedge.

Earth — Whisky & Coke

We don’t think there are many better ways to taste the flavours of earth than the notes of our very own Johnnie Walker scotch. However, if you are looking for a little variety, a classic whisky and cola rarely fails. This recipe serves one.

Ingredients

60 ml Johnnie Walker Black Label (or pick your favourite from our collection)

120 ml chilled cola

Dash of lemon juice (optional)

Fill a highball glass halfway with ice, and pour the scotch into it. Slowly add the cola to it to maintain the fizz. Add a dash of lemon juice for an additional kick of flavour.

Wood — Baileys Cinnamon Spice

This delicious cocktail is for the coffee lovers amongst us. Serves one.

Ingredients

25 ml Baileys Irish Cream

20 ml Smirnoff Vanilla vodka

120 ml milk

15 ml espresso (optional)

1 pinch cinnamon

1 cinnamon stick

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour the Baileys, vanilla vodka, and milk into the shaker. For a stronger coffee flavour, you can also add espresso to the concoction. Shake vigorously until the surface of the shaker feels cool. Pour into a martini glass and sprinkle the cinnamon. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Metal — Gold Rush

Definitely the most premium sounding cocktail on our list, this drink looks and tastes like liquid gold! Here’s what you’ll need to serve one —

Ingredients

60 ml Blade and Bow bourbon

20 ml lemon juice

20 ml honey

Add the bourbon, lemon juice, and honey into a shaker with ice. Shake until properly cooled. Pour the drink into a rocks glass with a few ice cubes.
