3 Creative Avocado Dips That Go Beyond Traditional Guacamole
Avocado dip does not necessarily mean guacamole.
In this day and age of creative food experts and home chefs, creating a dip that heroes the avocado goes beyond just making guac and calling it a day.
Read on for three avocado dip varieties that will serve as taste accompaniment.
Avocado Bacon Cream Cheese Dip
It’s a dip loaded with avocados, two types of cheese, cream cheese, jalapeños, cilantro, onions, spices, lime juice and, most importantly, crispy bacon.
To make the dip, cut two ripe avocados in half and remove their pits, followed by scooping out the avocado into a bowl. Mash the avocado until all the lumps are eased out, or till it reaches the consistency that you prefer. Then add in 115 grams of softened cream cheese along with two tablespoons or 30 ml of fresh cream (an easy and cost effective alternative is hung curd).
Next, add two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and one finely cut/minced garlic clove to your dip for that flavour. You can also add ¼ teaspoon of onion powder and ¼ teaspoon of smoked paprika to add some flavour.
Now fold in six slices of bacon that have already been cooked and crumbled (save some crispy bits for later, to use as a garnish on top). Add salt, pepper and an additional squeeze of lemon juice to taste.
Garnish with the bacon bits you preserved earlier and eat with your favourite chips / snacks.
Avocado and Feta Dip
To make this delicious dip, start by mashing two ripe avocados in a bowl until the consistency of your dip is smooth but slightly chunky, depending on whatever you prefer. Add 100 grams of crumbled, fresh feta cheese, and mix it in with the mashed avocado to get that creamy yet tangy base.
To really make the flavours pop, mix in two tablespoons of fresh lime juice, one big finely chopped garlic clove, and a handful of finely chopped coriander or parsley to your dip.
Add salt and pepper to taste, (remember that the feta also exudes a certain saltiness). To add spiciness to the dip, sprinkle in a pinch of chilli flakes or fresh chopped green chilies.
Stir everything together, drizzle some olive oil on top and garnish with some crumbled feta for the final flourish.
Avocado Hummus Dip
For a smooth and creamy Avocado Hummus Dip, start by blending one ripe avocado with a can of drained chickpeas together in a food processor. Add two tablespoons of tahini, juice from one lemon, and a minced garlic clove.
For enhanced smoothness, drizzle in two tablespoons of olive oil and blend the mixture until it’s creamy and smooth.
Add salt, pepper, and a pinch of cumin to taste. To achieve a slightly thinner consistency, you can add a splash of water or some olive oil.
Garnish your dip with some chopped parsley, a sprinkle of paprika and a drizzle of olive oil.
