5 Rose And Herb Infusions For Crafting Aromatic Summer Drinks

Rose And Herb Infusion

Known for its distinctly sweet aroma, slightly citrusy taste and its bright crimson hue, rose is often added to cocktails and mocktails during summer to lend them a luxurious and smooth taste. Rose crush is used to make sherbets and spritzers and dried rose petals are incorporated as aesthetic garnishes while crafting numerous blends. Another interesting way to infuse roses in summertime drinks, so their aromatic characteristics seep into these blends, is in the form of rose infusions.

Rose is such a versatile ingredient that it can be integrated with different herbs such as basil, thyme, mint and rosemary, so the resulting mix acquires a blend of aromatic, sweet and herbal notes. When such an infusion is added to cocktails and mocktails, they inevitably acquire a fragrant layer complete with more complex tasting notes and flavour blends.

Here are some of the rose and herb infusions that can be prepared during summer weather to add them to different cocktails and mocktails for their aromatic finish:

 1

Rose And Mint Syrup

One of the simplest syrups to craft for adding to summertime cocktails such as a variation of the classic mojito is rose and mint syrup. Use fresh rose petals and peppery green, crisp mint leaves for infusing them in a mixture of sugar and water. When the flavours of the two ingredients are fully integrated into the syrup, strain it finely so the resulting sticky and syrupy liquid carries the fragrance of roses and the peppery notes of mint in a complex combination of flavours. This syrup can also be added to drinks like a rose and mint vodka spritzer made using 30 ml Ketel One Premium Distilled Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice.

 2

Rose And Basil Infused Water

A simple way to infuse rose and basil into mocktails is in the form of infused water. Add dried rose petals and basil leaves to a jug and allow their flavours to steadily seep into cold water. Serve this aromatic and slightly savoury water with a lime wheel garnish to guests arriving at a summertime gathering or summer barbecue as a seasonal welcome drink. This infusion can also be prepared using tonic water which can then be added to a classic gin and tonic recipe crafted using 30 ml Tanqueray No. 10 Gin or any other premium gin of choice.

 3

Rose And Rosemary Tequila

Another interesting way to prepare a rose and herb infusion is by allowing these ingredients to steep in alcohol so their flavours are extracted completely into the spirit. The slightly savoury notes of rosemary will pair well with the contrasting sweet notes of rose petals to craft a spirit complete with a floral and herbal aroma. Such a spirit can then be used to prepare a flavoured margarita or tequila spritzer. Add 30 ml of this tequila prepared using Don Julio Blanco Tequila or any other premium tequila of choice to mix such a cocktail.

 4

Rose And Chamomile Tea

One of the most effective ways to make rose infusions is by brewing hot tea. Add a touch of chamomile and rose extract to this brew so the floral flavours completely seep into the hot drink. Allow the tea to cool down completely before mixing it with 30 ml Johnnie Walker Black Label or any other premium whisky of choice in the preparation of a whisky infused floral iced tea recipe.

 5

Rose, Thyme And Lavender Honey

Rose is a floral ingredient that undoubtedly blends well with similar aromatic elements such as lavender. Prepare a honey infusion using rose and lavender and build a savoury touch into this by adding thyme to the recipe. This syrup can be crafted and stored in a jar through the course of summer to be brought out for making spritzers crafted using good quality champagne, or cocktails like a vodka honey smash made using 30 ml Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice.
