1. Prepare clear ice cubes
- To create stamped ice at home, the first step is to have clear ice cubes. Use the magic of directional freezing to have 2″ x 2″ x 2″ ice cubes. You don’t have to pre-boil the water to prepare clear ice cubes; any water will do fine.
- Fill the tray to the fill line. Tap the tray against the counter to remove air bubbles, if any. Freeze for 18-24 hours. Break the ice off the bottom of the top layer of the two trays as you separate them. Check if the bottom is clear.
- Take the cubes from the tray and store them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer.
- Ensure the cubes do not touch each other, or they will stick together. To ensure the cubes don’t crack when you pour your best cocktails, leave the ice at room temperature for a few minutes to let it warm slightly.
2. Stamping the ice cubes
Here comes the most important step, stamping the ice cubes. Gently place the room-temperature stamp on top of your ice cube. Place it in the centre, so the complete design appears on the cube. Leave the brass stamp on the ice cube for 3-4 seconds. Leaving it for longer can make it freeze and stick to the ice cube.
If you are stamping more than one cube at a time, place your stamp briefly in warm water to maintain the brass stamp's temperature.
