Different Spirits

Explore creative Blue Lagoon variations with rum, gin, tequila, and more. Each spirit adds a unique twist.

The sweet and citrusy Blue Lagoon is a common yet favourite drink for many. It was approximately in the 1960s or early 1970s when this drink was believed to be first prepared by Andy MacElhone, the son of famed bartender Harry MacElhone, at Harry's New York Bar in Paris. This easy-to-mix drink only requires three main ingredients and a few simple garnishes.

The Blue Lagoon cocktail, with its vibrant blue hue and tropical taste, is often associated with vodka. However, vodka isn’t the only option when you think of preparing this drink on your own. A lot of other spirit options are there to add a new twist to this classic cocktail. Swap out Vodka, and you can simply explore new versions of the Blue Lagoon cocktails with different spirits.

Some Substitutions For Blue Lagoon With Different Liquors

Blue Lagoon With White Rum

Doesn’t it sound like a whole new innovation to pair Blue Lagoon with white rum? White rum brings a smooth, slightly sweet character to this drink. To make this, you will have to add 30 ml of white rum, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 100 ml of lemonade into a highball glass filled with ice. Once all the ingredients are added, just stir gently, and the rum will blend with the bright blue curaçao and tangy lemonade. For the finishing touch, you need to garnish it with a lemon slice and a cherry. Such a variation of this cocktail can easily bring a tropical flair to its original classic version.

Blue Lagoon With Gin

Gin’s botanical flavours add an intriguing depth to the Blue Lagoon. To prepare, pour 30 ml of gin, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 100 ml of tonic water or lemonade into a glass filled with ice. Stir briefly to mix. The gin adds a layer of complexity that you can manage with the choice of tonic or lemonade based on personal preference. Now, you can garnish with a lime wedge to enhance the citrus notes. This version of the Blue Lagoon may work well with those who appreciate the aromatic profile of gin.

Blue Lagoon With Tequila

So, if you want to try Blue Lagoon with Tequila, it can be a flavourful option to try. The hint of tequila adds a slightly earthy note to the Blue Lagoon. For this variation, you have to combine 30 ml of silver tequila, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 100 ml of lemon soda in a glass filled with ice. Stir until well mixed and garnish with a lime slice for a zesty twist.

Blue Lagoon With Coconut Rum

Coconut rum adds a rich, tropical sweetness to the Blue Lagoon. You have to mix 30 ml of coconut rum, 20 ml of blue curaçao, 80 ml of pineapple juice, and 20 ml of club soda over ice in a tall glass. Stir well, then top with club soda for a light, fizzy finish. Garnish with a pineapple slice and cherry to enhance the tropical flavour. This version combines the taste of coconut and pineapple, creating a twist for those who love tropical flavours.

Blue Lagoon With White Wine

For a lighter Blue Lagoon, white wine offers an elegant twist. Fill a glass with ice, then pour 30 ml of dry white wine, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 50 ml of lemon-lime soda. Stir gently, mixing the wine’s dryness with the citrusy soda and blue curaçao. You can garnish it with a lemon twist for a refined look. This wine-based version is ideal for a gentler, more subtle flavour profile compared to the other options.

Blue Lagoon With Mezcal

Mezcal brings a smoky depth to the Blue Lagoon, adding a unique dimension. In a glass filled with ice, you have to combine 30 ml of mezcal, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 100 ml of grapefruit soda. Start by stirring briefly, and garnish with a slice of grapefruit to complement the mezcal’s earthy tones. The mezcal’s smokiness pairs well with the blue curaçao and tart grapefruit, creating an adventurous, savoury version of the Blue Lagoon.

Blue Lagoon With Bourbon

Bourbon’s rich flavour adds a comforting twist you never knew to the Blue Lagoon. To prepare, pour 30 ml of bourbon, 20 ml of blue curaçao, and 80 ml of lemon iced tea into a glass filled with ice. Stir well to combine, then garnish with a mint sprig. This variation combines the depth of bourbon with the taste of lemon iced tea, resulting in a balanced, mellow drink that is both smooth and slightly citrusy.
