Come summer, two ingredients which are incorporated into drinks by many mixologists are roses and fresh, seasonal fruits. Numerous cocktails are crafted using mangoes, pineapples, pomegranates and other tropical fruits which ripen during this season. As well, a floral ingredient that makes a prominent appearance in summertime drinks is the sweet and aromatic rose.

One of the simplest ways to introduce these aromatic, acidic and tangy ingredients into cocktails is to make spirit infusions which are complete with their fruity and floral flavours. Not only does this contribute to building versatile tasting notes in drinks, it also turns them into colourful mixes when the hues of the spirit infusion integrate with the different fruity and citrusy mixers added to the drinks.  

Here are some simple recipes that can be crafted using rose and fruit infusions for making summer drinks complete with fresh flavours and bright colours:

Rose And Strawberry Spritz  

This is a citrusy, pinkish drink, complete with a signature fizz and sparkling texture often found in summertime cocktails.  

Ingredients:  

30 ml rose and strawberry-infused Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice  

15 ml elderflower liqueur  

10 ml fresh lime juice  

30 ml sparkling wine  

Chopped strawberries and rose petals for garnish  

Method:  

– In a cocktail shaker, bring together 30 ml rose and strawberry-infused Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice with 15 ml elderflower liqueur and 10 ml fresh lime juice. Shake well with ice. Strain the drink into a flute glass and top it off with 30 ml sparkling wine. Garnish with strawberries and rose petals.

Mango And Rose Margarita  

A fruity twist on the classic margarita recipe, this one can be concocted using a rose infused spirit that is blended with the fresh, seasonal fruit that ripens during summer.  

Ingredients:  

30 ml rose-infused Don Julio Blanco Tequila or any other premium tequila of choice  

10 ml fresh mango pulp  

1 tablespoon lime juice  

20 ml agave syrup   

15 ml triple sec  

Tajin, salt, lime juice and rose petals for garnish  

Method:  

– Add 30 ml rose-infused Don Julio Blanco Tequila or any other premium tequila of choice, 10 ml fresh mango pulp, 1 tablespoon lime juice, 20 ml agave syrup and 15 ml triple sec to a cocktail shaker. Shake the mix for 15-20 seconds with ice, until all ingredients are fully integrated into one another.  

Next, dampen the rim of a margarita glass with lime juice and dip it in a mix of tajin and salt. Strain the drink into the rimmed glass and garnish with rose petals.

Pineapple Rose Daiquiri  

Another tropical cocktail, the pineapple daiquiri is complete with versatile sweet, sour and acidic flavours that make it stand out for its flavourful complexity.  

Ingredients:  

30 ml Captain Morgan Dark Rum or any other premium rum of choice  

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed pineapple juice  

2 tablespoons rose syrup  

10 ml lime juice  

15 ml agave syrup  

2 dashes of orange bitters  

Pineapple wedge and dried rose petals for garnish  

Method:  

– In a cocktail shaker, bring together 30 ml Captain Morgan Dark Rum or any other premium rum of choice, 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons rose syrup, 10 ml lime juice and 15 ml agave syrup. Shake well for 15-20 seconds with ice.   

Add the drink to a stemmed coupé glass and top it off with 2 dashes of orange bitters. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and rose petals.

Rose And Pomegranate Gin Fizz  

A simple, crisp and elegant summertime cocktail, the rose and pomegranate gin fizz carries a pleasant red hue which well suits the bright colours of the season. 

Ingredients:  

30 ml rose and pomegranate infused Tanqueray No. 10 Gin or any other premium gin of choice  

1 tablespoon lemon juice  

10 ml simple syrup  

45 ml club soda  

Pomegranate pods for garnish  

Method:  

– In a cocktail shaker, add 30 ml rose and pomegranate infused Tanqueray No. 10 Gin or any other premium gin of choice, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 10 ml simple syrup and stir well.  

Add the drink to a highball glass filled with ice and top it off with 45 ml club soda. Garnish with pomegranate pods.
