There is also another theory that it was crafted by a bartender at a bar in New York City in the 1860s. The delicious mix of whisky, vermouth and bitters became a hit and was named after the area it originated from - Manhattan.

Method

Grab a mixing glass and fill it with ice. Ice is an important aspect of cocktail mixing as it helps in diluting and chilling the ingredients. It also aids in enhancing and balancing the flavours of the drink. 

Measure and pour 45ml of Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whisky, and 15ml of sweet vermouth into the mixing glass. Using suitable measuring tools is crucial, so we suggest using a cocktail jigger for measuring the ingredients.

Next, add two dashes of Angostura bitters into the mixing glass.

Stir the contents well using a bar spoon until the surface of the mixing glass feels chilled, and the ingredients are well incorporated. 

Using a cocktail strainer, strain the mixture into a coupe glass. This will remove any unwanted pieces of ingredients or ice shards resulting in a smooth drink.

Garnish the drink with a brandied cherry and serve immediately!
