The Martinez 2 cocktail - widely regarded as the original precursor to the martini cocktail, is a complex and aromatic drink methodically mixed with ice until frozen and strained ‘up’. Typically garnished with an orange twist or lemon peel, the drink provides a beautifully balanced, spirit-forward sip that is both elegant and easy.
Place your coupe or martini cocktail glass in the freezer or fill with ice water before discarding.
In a mixing glass, add the gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur and aromatic bitters.
Add plenty of fresh ice to the mixing glass and stir carefully for 20-30 seconds until the mixture is completely cold and diluted.
Strain into the chilled serving glass, pour the oils from an orange peel over the drink for aroma and add it as a garnish.
