Adding onions to your cocktails is a sure-shot way of getting an elevated drinking experience. Here is a simple step-by-step guide to making your own DIY cocktail onions at home.
Get pearl onions, then wash and peel them carefully. Trim the roots, but don’t chop them as this can lead to disintegration.
Sterilise the glass jars in boiling water and dry them out completely before filling them up with the cocktail onions.
Place white wine vinegar, sugar, salt, water and whole spices like peppercorns and boil them for a minute to make the pickling solution. Let it cool down.
Place the onions in a jar, top with the cooled down pickling solution and add any other flavouring agents if you want.
Seal the glass jar properly, then store in a cool, dark place for a week before using the cocktail onions as you like.
