The French Connection, a simple cocktail combining cognac and amaretto, is named after the 1971 American crime thriller film The French Connection by Gene Hackman.
The cocktail appears in Stanley M Jones’ 1977 book Jones Complete Barguide and in Mark Torre’s 1987 book The Bartenders Cherry.
(The) French Connection: Old Fashioned Glass, Fill with ice, 1-1/2 oz Cognac or brandy , 3/4 oz Amaretto
The drink is uncomplicated and delicious in its simplicity. The cognac offers a bright and fruity base that blends excellently with the amaretto’s fruity and almond notes.
Ingredients: 35 ml Cognac, 35 ml Amaretto
Pour all the ingredients directly into an old fashioned glass filled with ice cubes. Stir gently and serve.
