The Dill or No Dill cocktail is an elegant, herbaceous beverage distinguished by its innovative use of an otherwise culinary ingredient: fresh dill. Typically served in a chilled coupe glass, it expresses refined simplicity. While not a mainstream classic, the drink has acquired popularity in craft cocktail establishments due to its unique flavour profile and appealing to experimental drinkers looking for something out of the ordinary while also demonstrating the herb’s application outside of the kitchen.
Muddle a couple of dill sprigs and a pinch of smoked salt in a shaker before pouring the gin, fresh lemon juice, elderflower syrup and cucumber water into the shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid and shake rapidly for 15-20 seconds until well cooled and combined.
To eliminate dill residue and ice shards, strain the drink twice through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh sieve into a chilled coupe or martini cocktail glass.
Garnish with a fresh dill sprig to add aroma and visual appeal.
