The Gold Fashioned cocktail distinguishes itself by substituting rich, silky gold rum for traditional whisky, resulting in a smoother, more exotic base. The caramel flavour of the rum is wonderfully complemented by the natural sweetness and floral richness that come from using honey water rather than simple syrup and hence has a smooth texture and complex flavours that develop gradually when served over a large cube of ice.
Put the gold rum, honey water and aromatic bitters in a mixing glass.
To chill and dilute the mixture, add ice and stir gently for 20-30 seconds.
Strain over a single giant ice cube into a rocks glass.
Before adding the oils to the cocktail, garnish it with a twist of orange or lemon.
